Today I am going to make some homemade sunscreen. I have a little 3 year old redhead that's allergic to store bought sunscreen so we're trying a mix of recipes that I have researched from the interwebs.
Here's my recipe.
1/4 C. Shea Butter
1/4 C. Coconut oil
2 Tbsp Zinc Oxide
3 Tbsp Aloe Vera
1/2 tsp Vitamin E
Melt it all down in a double boiler making sure not to bring it above 90 degrees or the shea butter can get a gritty texture.
The recipes I researched also said to add some essential oils for a pretty scent but I don't want to because my daughter has such sensitive skin. The most expensive ingredient was the Vitamin E at $12 for 1 ounce and it was kind of hard to find some that didn't have any other ingredients in it.
Some links that I read while in search of my own recipe.
This one is what inspired my whole adventure.

And this one added fuel to my annoyance with store bought sunscreen.

I'll let you know as soon as mine is done how it turns out.
